From Tanzania to Sewanee, TN: Greetings from Vithalis

Greetings from Tanzania!

It’s hard to believe that a dream can be real! But I’ve come to believe that ‘nothing is impossible with God’. My dream came true when I visited the United States for my first international trip out of my continent of Africa to attend the 2015 North America Godly Play Conference at Sewanee, Tennessee on July 29th to August 2nd 2015. My time at Sewanee for the Godly Play Conference was very inspiring as I learned much and met other Godly Play Trainers and teachers. We had time to learn from each other. It was an unparalleled blessing to meet the founder of Godly Play Jerome Berryman, the man of full of wisdom and knowledge in children’s ministry.

It was very interesting for me to tell a story at the conference in Swahili, I was not sure if the participants of the conference could pick anything as they could understand Swahili. But later after telling my story, people told me how they enjoyed the story, especially how I was displaying the story. The participants’ feedback taught me something important in Godly Play. Godly Play is not only what we tell, but what we display. Friends it is hard to give details of everything that I learned in the US, but what I can say generally is that I learned much for God’s ministry. I came back in Africa full of knowledge, information, and new perspective for Godly Play in Tanzania.

Please kindly, for anyone who is willing to visit us in Tanzania to train Godly Play teachers and teach Godly Play classes, I’ll be glad to offer any support and details as I can to make this happen. Tanzania is still a mission field for Godly Play, so we still need people who can lend their hands to reach God’s children in Africa. No matter how different we are, we are one in Christ Jesus, the family of God, so we need each other!

Blessings,

Vithalis Yusuph
